All Laemonema Species: Snout not depressed to form a broadly V-shaped plate (when viewed ventrally). Ventral light organ lacking. Anal fin not noticeably indented.

Unique Characters: Distal 2/3 of caudal fin and triangular-shaped areas at posterior end of second dorsal and anal fins prominently black with thin white outer margins. No prolonged spine on first dorsal fin. Dorsal-fin rays 7+53-61; pectoral-fin rays 25-27, anal-fin rays 52-59.
