Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Your photos are beautiful, how do you do it?

This is a question we get fairly regularly. Although our methods are not difficult, they are difficult to explain. In lieu of an explanation, we ask you stay tuned for a blog post detailing our methods in the near future!

Can you identify a fish for me?

Absolutely, just send us some photographs and the collection location using the contact us link at the bottom of the page!

One of your fishes is misidentified!

This does happen on occasion, usually due to a mislabeling mistake on our part! Please drop us a line and point out our error using the contact us link below. Thank you!

How do you catch the fishes in your photos?

We use a combination of techniques, but mainly seines, dipnets, backpack electrofishers, and hook and line. We also have some good friends who will call us anytime something strange comes up in a net. I’d have to count, but I wouldn’t be surprised if over half of our marine fishes were caught by a friend’s son. He would throw a cast net all day long if his parents would let him, and we would pay him in candy bars and soda for every new species!
