Similar Species: Narrowneck Eel, Derichthys serpentinus. Snout and lower jaw short, snout approximately equal to eye diameter. Tip of snout not produced and spatulate, extends beyond lower jaw by a distance less than eye diameter. Constricted neck, and a series of short, longitudinal dermal ridges on the head (presumably sensory in nature).
