All Echiophis Species: Tail tip a hard or fleshy finless point. Gill openings inferior or lateral, unconstricted. Dorsal-fin origin on or behind head. Pectoral fins present, larger than eye; pectoral-fin base restricted, opposite upper half of gill openings. Teeth pointed, some teeth long and fang-like. head and trunk as long as or shorter than tail. Eye before middle of upper jaw (FAO 2002).
