All Notoscopelus Species: Three or more Prc (1 may be at or above lateral midline at base of caudal peduncle). Dn present; 2 horizontal Pol near lateral line; VO1-5 level. Both supra- and infracaudal glands present in both sexes (FAO 2002).

Notoscopelus caudispinosus

Unique Characteristics: Gill rakers 4 + 1 + 9 (rarely 8 or 10), total 14 (rarely 13 or 15); AO 7 (6-8) + 4 (3-5), total 11 (10-12); enlarged teeth on rear half of lower jaw. SCO present in adult males. Occasional specimens with 3 Pol in straight line (FAO 2020).
