Luxilus cerasinus

Unique Characters: Large anterior lateral scales, those closer to head deeper than wide. Sides with irregularly vertically elongated and darkly blackened scales (crescents). Dorsal fin pointed. Breeding male develops bright raspberry color on head, body, and fins. Native to the Roanoke basin, but introduced into the Cape Fear basin.

White Shiner Luxilus albeolus. Lacks dark crescents on the sides. Dorsal fin slightly rounded. Breeding male develops red edges on the fins.
