Unique Characters: Body form elongate. Circumpeduncle scales modally 16. Dorsum of head flat or slightly convex, little or not at all elevated above eyes. Lips subplicate with usually numerous transverse grooves. Lateral body stripes below lateral line, pale stripes narrower than dark stripes. Lateral body stripes in adults usually retained. Lateral body blotches usually retained in juveniles. Dorsal fin rays modally 11. Restricted to Broad, Catawba, and Yadkin basins.

Similar Species:

“Brassy” Jumprock Moxostoma sp. Body form stout. Circumpeduncle scales modally 16. Dorsum of head strongly convex, well elevated above eyes. Lips subplicate; few or no deep transverse grooves. Dorsal and caudal fins not with black tips. Lateral body stripes below lateral line,  pale stripes wider than or equal in width to dark stripes. Lateral body stripes in adults lost. Lateral body blotches lost in medium juveniles and adults. Dorsal fin rays modally 12. Restricted to Broad, Catawba, Yadkin and Cape Fear basins.
