Notemigonus crysoleucas Golden Shiner
Unique Characters: Deep bodied and laterally compressed. Sickle-shaped dorsal and long anal fins. A complete lateral line that dips down to near the lower edge of the side. Usually 12-15 anal fin rays. Small head with oblique mouth. Black lateral stripe in the juvenile.
Similar Species:
Adult is distinctive, but juveniles can be initially mistaken for Notropis species that also have a black lateral stripe. It can be differentiated from them by the oblique mouth, dipped lateral line, laterally compressed body, and numerous anal fin rays.
