Unique Characters: Body and fins with no distinct spots.  Only documented from Nantahala Reservoir.

Rainbow Trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. Small, dark spots on head, body, and most fins. Pinkish to red stripe on the sides. Adipose fin black-edged.

Brown Trout Salmo trutta. Large dark spots on body edged with orange and with red an orange spots on the sides. No dark spots in caudal fin.

Brook Trout Salvelinus fontinalis. Light spots on body, wormlike markings on the back, and pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins have a white edge.
