Unique Characteristics: Belly and interpelvic area with 1 or more highly modified (enlarged, often strong-spined) modified scales. Gill membranes broadly joined, 80-90°. Snout pointed. Breast well scaled, at least laterally and posteriorly, scales small and embedded. Restricted to Tennessee River drainage basins, except for the Watauga basin.
