Unique Characters: Subopercle asymmetrical (triangular). Lower lip with no small fleshy knob at tip. Tip of lower lip well in advance of anterior nostril. Currently restricted to lower French Broad River in Madison County and Pigeon, Nolichucky and Roanoke basins.

Adult snout pointed. Tubercles small, smaller on snout and dorsum of head than on opercles; tubercles absent from most body scales. Currently restricted to lower French Broad River in Madison County and Nolichucky basin.
