Unique Characters: Eight anal fin rays. Robust body. Lateral stripe distinct posteriorly but faint to absent anteriorly. Mouth terminal to slightly subterminal. Usually 33-36 lateral line scales. Predorsal circumferential scales above lateral line ~ 11. Restricted generally to the Catawba and Broad basins.
Similar Species:
All species of Cyprinella have dark pigment on the last 2-4 interradial membranes of the dorsal fin.
