Unique Characters: Central bony plate with fleshy lobe to either side on lower jaw. Small barbel near corner of mouth. Chubby body. Restricted to New basin.

Cutlip Minnow Exoglossum maxillingua. Much larger fleshy lobe on each side of lower jaw. No barbel. Restricted to Dan River system of Roanoke basin.
