Preopercular margin entire. Upper and lower edges of caudal-fin base without projecting spines (FAO 2002; FAO 2016).

Yellowish tan above, paler below. Five wide brownish bars on sides extend into dorsal fins. May have a sixth bar on caudal peduncle. Bars may be complete on incomplete. Small dark spot at upper pectoral-fin base.
