Unique Characteristics: Parietal and preopercular spines very long in young juveniles (e.g. parietal 26-31% standard length and preopercular 31% standard length in a 19 mm standard length specimen, but becoming relatively shorter with age (parietal 8-9% standard length and preopercular 7-8% standard length in 57 mm standard length specimen).
