Unique Characteristics: Body fusiform, greatest body depth 3.7-7.7 in Standard Length. Dorsal blade and iliac spines absent. AC with 2 or 3 groups of 5 or more photophores; IP in a single group of 6 (rarely 7) photophores. Gill rakers on first arch 11-22 on upper limb and 3-8 on lower limb, total 15-30. Dorsal-fin origin at or ahead of middle of body; anal fin divided by a cluster of AC photophores into 2 distinctly separate parts; SO photophore absent; OP3 greatly enlarged relative to other OP photophores, elongated dorsoventrally.
