Centrobranchus nigroocellatus

Unique Characteristics: Two Prc photophores. No photophores above lateral line. AO divided into 2 groups, AOa and AOp; Pol present. Mouth subterminal, snout projecting (Fig. 10); jaws moderate, extending 1/2 eye diameter behind orbit. Gill rakers absent, reduced to spiny knobs. Lateral line very poorly developed, perforated mid-line scales absent; male SCO of 4-7 well-defined, overlapping plates, and ICO absent; female ICO of 3-6 non-overlapping patches, and SCO absent; body firm, usually scaled, body sides blue-silver, darkening dorsally (FAO 2002; FAO 2020).
