Unique Characters: Three or more precaudal (1 may be at or above lateral midline at base of caudal peduncle). Dorsonasal absent. Supra- and infracaudal glands overlapping scale-like plates, never bordered by jet-black pigment. Neither 2 horizontal Pol near lateral line or VO1-3 on a straight ascending line with VO4-5 level. Supra- and infracaudal glands overlapping scale-like plates, never bordered by jet-black pigment. Luminous tissue over base of anal or dorsal fins and on other portions of body. Four (3+1) precaudal. Eye without whitish crescent. No luminous tissue above eyes. PO4 not elevated; VO only slightly arched. Medial luminous tissue present at bases of pelvic fins or between pelvic fins and anal-fin origin. Pectoral fins moderate, not reaching adipose fin.

Diagnosis: dorsal finrays 13 (12, rarely 14); anal finrays 14 (13-15); pectoral finrays 13 (12-14). Gillrakers 6 (7, rarely 5) + 1 + 13 (12-14, rarely 15), total 20 (19-21, rarely 18 or 22). AO 6 (5-7) + 4 (3), total 10 (9-11). Size: to 117 mm.
