Unique Characters: Three obvious segmented pelvic-fin rays (third ray goes 4 or fewer times in length of longest). Long, unbranched, banded cirrus above each eye. Each jaw with canine-like or incisor-like teeth anteriorly. Dorsal-fin spines flexible, usually outnumbering the segmented soft rays, spinous and segmented-rayed portions forming a single, continuous fin. 2 flexible spines in anal fin. Lateral line absent. Scales absent.
Similar Species: Pirate Blenny Emblemaria piratula. Two obvious segmented pelvic-fin rays (third ray vesitigial or goes 5 or more times in length of longest). Cirrus above eye unmarked. Each jaw with canine-like or incisor-like teeth anteriorly. Dorsal-fin spines flexible, usually outnumbering the segmented soft rays, spinous and segmented-rayed portions forming a single, continuous fin. 2 flexible spines in anal fin. Lateral line absent. Scales absent.
