Glyptocephalus cynoglossus
Unique Characters: Eyed side brown with or without darker bars. Pectoral fin with pale margin. Blind side is white with small, dark specks. Mouth very small. Lateral line not arched above pectoral fin. Dorsal fin with 97-117 rays.
Similar Species: Winter Flounder Pseudopleuronectes americanus. Color variable. Tannish, reddish brown, olive green, to dark slaty or black. May be uniformly colored, mottled, blotched or partially white. Smaller specimens are paler and more marked than large specimens. Blind side is usually white; some with yellow on lower caudal peduncle; some with dark blotches. Mouth small, snout short. Area between eyes scaled. Dorsal fin with 59-76 rays. Lateral line straight over pectoral fin.
