Unique Characteristics: Origin of dorsal fin behind or directly over (in small specimens) insertion of pectoral fins. Scales on top of head extend forward of eyes. Body usually elongate (maximum depth more than 3 times in length). No teeth on tongue, Insertion of pelvic fins before or under insertion of pectoral fins (possibly behind in very large specimens). Anal fin with 24-29 rays and 1 or 2 spines.
