Unique Characters: Prominent black stripe on the side, large eye, and barbel at corner of mouth. Breeding male develops a red color on front third of the body. Restricted to the Savannah basin.

Bigeye Chub Hybopsis amblops. In North Carolina it is found in all Tennessee River drainage basins, except for the Little Tennessee and Watauga basins. Male does not develop a red color.
