Leiostomus xanthurus

Unique Characters: Primarily found in estuarine or salt water. Upper body with 11-15 oblique, brownish bars. Distinct black spot behind upper opercular margin. Young with square caudal fin.

Similar Species:

Atlantic Croaker Micropogonias undulatus. Brownish spots on sides form numerous oblique, broken bars. Dark blotch at pectoral fin base. Preopercle serrated.  Young with elongated, pointed caudal fin.
