Unique Characters: Lateral line absent. Lateral line scales usually 40-45. Predorsal fin scale rows usually 14-16. Cylindrical body shape in cross section. Anterior tip of upper lip generally well below level of ventral rim of eye. Side with single wide dark stripe in young, occasionally blotches in adult.

Anterior tip of upper lip generally near the level of ventral rim of eye. Side with single wide dark stripe in young, occasionally blotches in adult.
Spotted Sucker Minytrema melanops. Lateral line absent. In adult each scale with a dark spot at the base, forming longitudinal stripes.
