Unique Characters: Tail tip a hard or fleshy finless point. Gill openings unconstructed, entirely ventral or nearly so. Coloration without large spots. All fins absent. Head pores developed, supratemporal pores 3, preopercular pores 3 present. Preanal lateral-line pores 61-65.
Similar Species: Academy Eel Apterichtus ansp. Tail tip a hard or fleshy finless point. Gill openings unconstructed, entirely ventral or nearly so. Coloration without large spots. All fins absent.
