Lepomis cyanellus

Unique Characters: Large mouth with upper jaw that extends back to middle of the eye. Black blotch present at rear of second dorsal fin and anal fin. Yellow to orange edges dorsal, caudal, and anal fins. Ear flap is short and black with a pale margin. Pectoral fin short and rounded. Blue streaks on the cheek and opercle.

Warmouth Lepomis gulosus. No black blotch in dorsal or anal fin. Dark brown lines that radiate back from red eye. Mottling on the sides. Teeth on the tongue (absent in Green Sunfish).

Bluegill Lepomis macrochirus. Conspicuous black spot in rear of the soft dorsal fin, none in the anal fin. No blue streaks on cheek or opercle. Ear flap black with no pale margin. Small mouth. Pectoral fin long and pointed.
